Bugaboo Prams

Bugaboo Prams – What’s all the fuss about?

Whether you love them or hate them, everyone seems to have an opinion about Bugaboo prams. But why are they so controversial? What’s the deal with bugaboo prams …why are they so expensive? Are they worth the investment?

At its conception the Dutch innovators at Bugaboo aimed to make a pram that could be used in both the city and for leisure activities. Bugaboo prams made a big splash in the US, appealing to fashion-conscious mothers (and celebrities) with their radical, innovative and stylish designs. The company has been said to have “re-defined the pram” and are now a popular choice of baby prams for may new parents.

Bugaboo makes this claim on their website:

“Bugaboo Prams are the essence of what a 21st century baby pram should be. Rendered in only the most contemporary designs, rugged, and functional to the point of effortlessness, Bugaboo Prams have left a remarkable impression on parents all over the world.”

There are currently three models of Bugaboo prams, the Bugaboo Bee, Bugaboo Frog and Bugaboo Cameleon.

• The Bugaboo Bee is the most compact of the Bugaboo prams, made for those with active lifestyles. It boasts a one-piece foldable design that accommodates children from infancy to toddlers and is the base model of the Bugaboo prams line.

• The Bugaboo Frog was the original Bugaboo pram. Named for its unique frog-like suspension, it has a modular infant-to-toddler and multi-terrain design and is the next model up in the Bugaboo prams line from the Bugaboo Bee.

• The Bugaboo Cameleon is a top of the line, fully featured baby pram, synonymous when talking about expensive prams. As one would expect from the most expensive of Bugaboo prams, the Cameleon can be taken on any terrain, and can suit any occasion. It possesses a unique infant-to-toddler travel system and can be used as a bassinette or seat, and is car seat adaptable. It is also ridiculously customizable.

It seems as though the most popular and talked about of the Bugaboo prams is the Bugaboo Cameleon. As with any product, the Cameleon has its pros and cons and when looking for a new baby pram (or Bugaboo prams) for your child its important to know your budget, what you require out of your baby pram and what are reasonable expectations to have.

This is a collection of what Bugaboo prams owners are saying about the Cameleon. These comments are common and widely acknowledged by Bugaboo prams owners:

Pros:
  • Easy to use
  • Stylish – great selection of colour choices Light weight
  • Easy to manoeuvre/steer - tight turning circle (360°)
  • Adjustable handle height
  • Reversible/rotating handlebar
  • Thin width so pram can fit in narrow places where most others can’t
  • Is good in all terrains
  • Has bassinette and seat cover
  • Bassinette detachable from base
  • Can be used with a car seat
  • Wind proof cover and rain protector
  • Many accessories

Cons:
  • Expensive
  • Have to initially assemble it
  • Bassinette doesn’t have different positioning
  • Folding/unfolding is initially difficult but ok once you’ve done it a few times
  • Seat isn’t totally flat when reclined
  • Many mothers only find the bassinette useful up to 6 months

In general it seems the majority of Bugaboo prams owners are extremely happy with their prams. There are a minority who aren’t but as previously mentioned it is important to know before you buy your pram what features you’re looking for, the primary purpose of the pram and your budget.
